About Ben Goldstein, LCSW

Specializing in supporting the LGBTQ+ community, artists & activists through life transitions and more acute mental health concerns

MY APPROACH

I believe therapy should be a space for liberation, healing, and deep self-understanding. My work is rooted in a commitment to accessible, affirming mental health care for communities that have historically faced barriers to competent support—particularly LGBTQ+ individuals, artists, activists, and those experiencing psychosis or other complex mental health challenges.

Drawing from psychodynamic and psychoanalytic frameworks, I help clients explore how unconscious patterns and past experiences shape their present lives. By bringing curiosity and care to this process, we can identify behaviors, relationships, and beliefs that may no longer serve you—creating space for growth, healing, and new possibilities.

I show up authentically in this work, recognizing that therapy is a collaborative process. I am committed to ongoing learning, self-reflection, and adapting my approach to meet your needs. Your feedback matters, and together, we will create a space where you feel heard, supported, and empowered in your journey.

MY BIO

I’m Ben (he/him), a licensed therapist in Philadelphia specializing in LGBTQ+ mental health, trauma, psychosis, and therapy for artists and activists. My work is rooted in providing affirming, liberation-focused therapy to individuals who have historically faced barriers to competent mental health care.

I am passionate about de-stigmatizing psychosis and voice hearing, and my writing on the topic has been published in Psychoanalytic Social Work. I’ve presented at the American Association of Psychoanalysis in Clinical Social Work (AAPCSW) conference and the International Society for Psychological and Social Approaches to Psychosis (ISPS-US) conference, sharing insights on trauma-informed therapy, psychoanalysis, and community mental health.

I hold a Master’s of Social Service (2018) from Bryn Mawr’s Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research. My background as a writer influences my work as a therapist—I believe in the power of storytelling, self-exploration, and re-authoring personal narratives to create healing and transformation. In addition to my clinical practice, I serve as adjunct faculty and instructor of clinical social work at Bryn Mawr’s Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research, where I help train future therapists in thoughtful, socially conscious practice.

If you’re looking for LGBTQ+ affirming therapy, trauma therapy, or psychosis-informed care in Pennsylvania, I’d love to work with you. Let’s build a space where you can heal, grow, and feel more connected to yourself and your community.
